Girly Room | Life

I've been spinning ideas for a year now on how I'd like to do the girl's areas of our home. I can't wait to find a house and start turning this idea board into reality. One thing I haven't decided is if this board is for their room or the play room.

How many of you have play rooms? I never had one growing up, but my sister and I never shared a room either. Do they work or do all the toys seems to land back in their bedrooms?

Thinking the bedroom will be just for beds and clothes, possibly a book nook. And then the play room will be where all the toys are along with our montessori materials. So a play room/montessori classroom. But I'm wondering if a play/montessori room will be hard to accomplish and use successfully. Who wants to focus on class activities when you have toys to play with, slides to slide and swings to swing. So we might instead designate a toys area in a finished basement. Or maybe the classroom materials go in the basement? Decisions.

Any way we work it I love this idea board for the girls. Blacks, pinks, whites and yellows. Love the white walls and pink ceiling in that photo on the top right. Our crib is a white jenny lind and I'm back and forth if the girls should have bunks or two jenny lind beds. Thoughts? Kmart has them for the best deal but they'd need to be painted. They have a pink "For Like Ever" poster (bought when it wasn't so popular and a lot cheaper) that will always be a part of their room. Something to remind them that they are stuck in our family and with each other no matter what. Evil I know. Other than that it'll take some messing around to see what I end up with but this idea board is my visionary starting point.

I love idea boards. If you are planning a wedding you should check out Snippets and Ink she has excellent inspiration boards to get themes and colors schemes going.

Cotton candy | Sweet Idea

I'm behind the times and just got around to looking at my latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. This picture grabbed my attention because who doesn't love gorgeous photos of billowy, pillowy, cotton candy. But it's the details in the caption that have me dorkishly giddy.

Guess what the cotton candy is wrapped around? Rock candy! What a fun surprise huh. I thought those sticks looked familiar. I LOVE rock candy. Not really for its taste, just for its classic look because really there isn't any taste since it's pure sugar.

I'd love to incorporate this into a birthday party favor for one of my girls but how on earth do you get ahold of a cotton candy machine for a reasonable price? Could you buy store bought cotton candy and wrap it around without it looking pretty ghetto?

I'm in love.

This is Home | Life

It's done and over with. We turned in our keys to the place we called home this past year. Feels like we are closing another chapter or checking off another to do in our life story, or something fluffy like. It was sad to clear out of there but we both feel as if we are ready to be done with the Prairies. It's hard living with small children in small confines with neighbors on either side. None the less we will miss the place for the memories made there.

Right now we are in a funky limbo. We don't know where we will be living once in Kansas City, we just know we are going to be in KC around Ben's start date August 3rd. And our world is in boxes and plastic Target bags all over the basement and garage at Ben's parent's house. I have a lot of sorting and repacking to do in the next few weeks to find all the stuff we want to get rid of for our summer garage sale and also so that we can find things easily the rest of the summer.

Ben graduates this Saturday and we are more than excited about that! We have a lot of flexibility this summer for travel and finding our home in KC. There will never be another summer like this one and we are going to enjoy it! I have to admit though I'm also pretty anxious for it to be over because that means we will have a home and get to start exploring Kansas City.
